Yosemite in the time of COVID

This past June we had been observing stay at home orders since mid-March. Which meant for us, staying put as much as possible, only going out to run to the store or do quick errands. Summer is usually a time when we can get away for a bit as a family. Covid has of course thrown its wrench for all of us. A friend of mine posted about visiting Yosemite and how quiet it was. Entry to Yosemite was limited, requiring advanced ticket purchase. The park was closed to camping inside its boundaries. I went to recreation.gov to purchase a …

Thanksgiving in Rincon, Puerto Rico

We rolled into Rincon on Thanksgiving day sometime after noon. Hungry for lunch, we headed towards Balnearo de Rincon thinking we could perhaps find a place along the water to grab a bite. We passed through an archway to see a restaurant with a buffet right on the water. Turns out it was a Thanksgiving feast for their employees. We took a moment to enjoy the sun while the husband spoke with the locals. Turns out, all the restaurants in the area were closed due to the holiday, but they pointed us to some food trucks which they said were …

A Delightful BnB in Normandy.

April 2019 we made a trip to England and France and scratched some things off our ‘bucket list.’ Chiefly for me, I had wanted to visit Mont St. Michele since 1996, as I didn’t go at the time and had regretted it since.  In planning our trip I wanted to stay in the Normandy area for a few days to see the country side and local villages. I love seeing and wandering smaller towns as opposed to the bigger cities. I enjoy the slower pace, being able to stretch our legs and take our time going where it looks interesting. …

What Are Your Favorite Craveable Destinations?

I have been many places in the world including Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, all over the US and Europe- most recently in Italy, France and England. How do you choose? Puerto Rico has amazing beaches, friendly people and so much to explore from the jungle to the beaches.  Italy has amazing food, friendly locals and so much history you could spend a life time absorbing it! In France we finally scratched Mont St. Michele off my bucket list and it was a highlight of my time in France. Close to home, I recently took my teens to Yosemite which …

Italy Bathroom

We all have that moment when we immediately regret something. Right? We were waiting for the train and my niece was using the restroom. When she exited I decided I would just pop in real quick and go pee. The door shut and I went to sit down and as I did the toilet started to slide away. Then the spray jets turned on to clean the floors! I screamed as I was startled. There are no windows and the door hermetically seals, there was no way out- I just had to wait for it to be over. When I …

Vegan in Paradise

Puerto Rican food is often fried, usually meat of some sort. It’s abundant and easily accessible in restaurants, roadside stands and by the beach. When eating healthy and mostly vegetarian if not vegan, it can be a challenge finding food that is satisfying.  I love that the island has an abundance of fresh fruits such as mango, avocado, papaya, coconut, etc. Eating local is the best way to immerse yourself into the culture of where you are. I stumbled upon this cute vegetarian cafe after a hike in El Yunque rainforest. As you leave the forest you drive through the …
